Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry developed a strong friendship on the golf course
Klay Thompson recently talked about his relationship with Stephen Curry on Paul George’s podcast, The Jump. Thompson said that in his first season, he and Curry barely spoke.
“I’m a rookie and you don’t want to touch the veterans.” Thompson said. “I’m like the opposite of Chase, Chase has been chattering since he made the team, he’s pulling all the stops to make his presence felt, and I’m just trying to be quiet and get the job done and then observe.”
Thompson said his relationship with Curry didn’t start to progress until they played in the 2014 World Cup together.
“We finally hung out together off the court because we didn’t have anything else to do there.” Thompson said. “We were in the Canary Islands and didn’t have anything else to do so we went golfing together and we finally got to know each other on the golf course and that’s when I realized ‘this guy is a two-sport athlete’!”
Thompson and Curry are now one of the most successful duos in NBA history. They’ve won four championships together, and Thompson says golf is where they built their friendship.
“Golf is a great way to get to know people.” Thompson said. “You get a lot of time together on the golf course and you talk about a lot of things and you get to know people’s personalities. So I’m glad we went out there together and we were able to build a friendship.”
Thompson and Curry’s friendship is one of the most famous in the NBA, and it’s great to see them continue to have success together for years to come.
