Lue said he’s always been a fan of the Warriors’ system and was excited to finally get a chance to coach the plays he’s fought against for four straight years.
“We played a lot of fast-break plays in the U.S., the high block and then the point guard coming out around the cover, we played a lot of stuff like that,” Lue said, “We haven’t had a chance to try out the last-minute plays of the game because we haven’t played a couple of games yet, and the last few minutes are still close. But in practice, like needing a 3, needing a 2, we’ve seen a lot of Warriors plays.”
Lue believes the Warriors’ system is strong because it allows players to maximize their potential.
“The Warriors’ system is all about creating space and opportunities,” Lue said, “and it gives players a lot of options to make the right decisions.”
Lue also said that the U.S. team still needs to hone the Warriors system during games.
“We need to keep practicing and get everyone familiar with the system,” Lue said, “We need to get players to be able to play with their talents in the game.”
